Meet Larry

I am a lifelong outdoor enthusiast and wife proclaimed fishaholic. I am an aspiring professional angler and actively involved in several grass roots angling and conservation organizations. I am a retired Army officer living in Leavenworth, Ks and currently work for the US Army as a civilian. I am an active member of the Leavenworth Bass Club (the largest BASS affiliated bass club in Ks). I fish several tournament circuits to include the BFL Ozark Division, Bassmaster Weekend Series Missouri Division, Mid States Tournament Association (MSTA), N2it series, Joe BASS Team Trail, TBFKS and KBFN state qualifiers, Burtons Bait and Tackle Thursday night jackpots. Additionally, I have competed in the Heartland Trails pro-am events. I routinely fish Smithville, Mozingo, Truman, LOZ, Table Rock, Pomme de Terre, Stockton, Banner Creek, Coffey County, and La Cynge. On average, I spend over 120 days on the water each year. I plan on continuing to develop my angling skills and expand my tournament angling to the BASS Central Opens and FLW American Fishing Series in the coming years. With tournament fishing as my passion, I am keenly aware of the business aspects of the sport holding an undergraduate BBA in marketing and a Masters in Business Administration. I love to talk fishing whether conducting, seminars, working for sponsors, or writing articles and blogs; I get a lot of enjoyment sharing my knowledge and communicating my fishing philosophy. As a member of the 7/24 outdoors pro-staff, I routinely provide fishing and bass tournament reports from the eastern Kansas and western Missouri region along with informative expert articles on a myriad of fishing and conservation issues.

Notable Achievements

With the help of a myriad of sponsors and volunteers, I was able to bring the Fishing for Freedom tournaments to the Midwest. Fishing for Freedom organizes volunteer boaters from bass clubs, regional tournament series, and fishing guides to take wounded warriors and Global War on terrorism (GWOT) veterans out for a day of tournament bass fishing. For complete details go to http://fishingforfreedom.us/.

I have been fortunate to become involved with a group of special needs folks from the Leavenworth area. We have been able to organize an annual event we call the Special American’s Fishing Event (SAFE). SAFE brings together over 75 special needs folks from ages 6 to 68 for a morning of fishing and outdoor recreation at Merritt Lake.

Additionally, I plan, organize, and execute a Spring and Fall Kid’s Fishing Derby on Ft Leavenworth that brings together 150-200 kids age 0-15 for a morning of fishing and outdoor recreation.
